Birdwatching

In Europe this is a popular hobby: people travel to watch rare birds through binoculars and log every species they see. Guides are paid for rare species. The old forest by the village is home to the three-toed and white-backed woodpeckers, Tengmalm's owl and the black stork.

What it is

Why it works

  1. 01

    Who comes

The best-paying and most careful guests. They arrive in spring, outside the mushroom season.

  2. 02

    Why us

In Poland a guide is expensive and there is often a queue. Here it is 30% cheaper and without the crowds.

How we make it

How we make it

A bird tour is a day on foot along forest rides with someone who knows birds by their voices. Such a guide needs a season or two of learning, but after that all that is needed is binoculars, a spotting scope and a species list.

Difficulty
The guide must know birds by voice: 1–2 seasons of learning
  1. Training the guide

We learn the birds by voice: the Merlin app, recordings, a field guide. We build a map of places by species.

  2. The season

April–June, when birds sing and build nests and are easy to find by voice.

  3. The route

6–8 hours on foot along the rides between forest compartments, in a group of up to four.

  4. Optics

Binoculars for the guide and four pairs for guests, second-hand is fine. A spotting scope on a tripod: for these guests it is a must.

How we serve it

How we serve it

We look for guests where they look for guides: on forums and in birdwatching groups. A description in English, an honest species list and reviews do more than any advertising.
