What we learn from others

We looked at how rural guest houses work in Europe and Asia. We invent nothing from scratch: we take what already works for others.

Examples

Six models and what we take

  • Italy · agriturismo

    Italy

    agriturismo

Guests cook and harvest together with the hosts. We take cooking lessons and the autumn apple harvest.

  • Austria and Germany

    Austria and Germany

Children's farms with a quality mark. We take feeding the animals on a schedule.

  • Poland · Podlasie

    Poland

    Podlasie

Horses, carts and sleighs at almost every farm stay. We set them up from year one.

  • Estonia and Finland

    Estonia and Finland

The banya as a ritual with a master. We take the banya ritual as a separate service.

  • France and England

    France and England

Farm dinners for outside guests and a minimum number of nights. We do the same.

  • Japan and New Zealand

    Japan and New Zealand

Many short, affordable activities. Our workshop catalogue follows their example.

Conclusions

What we take for ourselves

  1. 01

    Dinner comes first

The kitchen also works for outside guests, by booking.

  2. 02

    Short activities

An hour or two with a clear price; a guest takes several per trip.

  3. 03

    Our own shop

Everything you tried at the table can be taken home.

  4. 04

    Harvest together

Juice, apples, mushrooms, honey: guests work with the hosts and eat the result.

  5. 05

    The host close by

Reviews praise the host, so he sits with guests at dinner and by the fire.

A model proven by others

All these ideas already work on farms in Europe and Asia. We need support to bring them together in one village.

04 /Questions

About others' experience

What is agriturismo?

Italian farms that host guests: the guest cooks and harvests together with the hosts.

Why a minimum of two nights?

That way a guest has time for the banya, the bison and dinner. Farms in England do the same.

What do we take from German children's farms?

Feeding the animals on a schedule and a "helper" badge for children.

Help the village come back to life

We are not asking for the whole budget at once. Support one specific piece of work, one house, or take on a line of work of your own.
